Embellish color trends challenge with birds

There's a new Embellish color trends challenge which you can check out here. The challenge was to use the colours shown to the left, together with some sort of bird image.

I decided to put some curio chipboard to use, though I ended up recolouring part of the bird to get rid of its red chest :)  I made my own postcard using a piece of cardstock, some patterned paper, a printed label and a stamp. The card got a bit mangled going through the printer, but that probably fits with the vintage type look.  Here's what I came up with:

Scrapbook layouts - heritage

One of the things we did in Vienna was to go to the cemetery where members of my Dad's family are buried. I have been there before, but now that I've been doing some family research, I know much more about the families concerned.  For this layout I made my own 'background' by printing off a map of part of the cemetery:

For these black and white photos of  my Mum's side of the family I used mainly black/white with a touch of gold to accent. The white mat for journalling on the right hand page ended up such a strange shape in order to cover up some mistakes (oops):

PTI Make it Mondays challenge #1

Papertrey Ink have started a new weekly challenge called 'Make it Mondays'. The first challenge which you'll find here is to create a go-to sentiment card. I've had a crazy week at work, so many things I had to get done -including making several sympathy cards :( - but I've finally got time to make and post my card.  Here's what I came up with:

Photobucket

I decided to use a sentiment 'block' (not sure what else to call it) as the focal point. I arranged all  the sentiments on my card, then picked them up with an acrylic block so I could stamp them at once. One didn't fit so I stamped it separately using red ink:

Vintage peace on earth

Here is another vintage Christmas card I made a while ago.  This one features micro beads on the focal image. It's the first (and probably last) time I've tried using micro beads. I'm not sure that I really like the look - seems a bit blurry to me. Maybe I'll just stick to crackle effects from now on!

Supplies
Paper - PTI vintage cream cardstock, green and gold card from stash, DCWV Mariposa patterned paper stack
Accessories - Kathleen Green collage sheet, micro beads, Kaisercraft rhinestones, Fundamentals petites alphabet stickers, foam mounting tape, sewing machine
